Dear Parents/Carers,

The Phonics Screening Check for Year 1 children will take place during the week of Monday 12th June.  The Phonics Screening Check contains 40 words divided into two sections. Both sections contain a mixture of real words and pseudo-words. As part of this assessment, children are asked to independently read each word to a teacher.

You can help your child prepare for their Phonics Screening Check by practising the letter sounds (phonics) which they have learned throughout Reception and Year 1. For your reference an example from the assessment has been included below.

We hope you will be able to join one of our Phonics Screening Check Workshops for parents/carers this coming Monday 24th April at 9:05 or 14:45 where we can answer your questions and provide you with more information about how to further support your child at home.

Further information on phonics screening can be sourced on the gov.uk website:

We look forward to seeing you at the parent/carer workshops,

Tina Georgiades | Deputy Headteacher
